Welcome to Mrs.McBroome's Second Grade class located in Room 325! We hope you will enjoy reading about our classroom. Click on the categories below to learn more about what we do each day. General information that applies to all of your Second Grades can be found on the Second Grade Homepage
| Rules for
behavior
We have a few simple rules in our class. They are the same as our School Pledge and follow the three Rs. 1. I will be Respectful. 2. I will be Responsible. 3. I will do the Right thing. We have found that these rules can be applied to all aspects of school life ( probably life at home, too!). If a child forgets to follow these rules and problems arise, the following consequences will occur:
1) The child’s name will be written on the board as a warning. 2) If the problem persists, a check will be added to the name and 5 minutes
will be taken away from recess. 3) If there is another incident, another check will be added to the name
and all of recess will be taken away.
4) If a problem occurs a third time the child will be sent to the
principal. 5) Detentions are given during recess or after school if the teacher or principal
feels the inappropriate behavior warrants it.

| Homework
Written homework is assigned Monday
through Thursday nights. There
is a Math Practice Sheet used
to keep skills sharp and a Reading
Worksheet used for phonics, story comprehension, or spelling. Your child is expected to read
each night (even on weekends if possible) for 20-30 minutes.
Your child will take home two reading books each night.
They have a leveled book chosen especially for them at their
individual reading level to develop fluency, and a book that the whole
class is reading to develop comprehension skills.
Please listen to your child read aloud and provide help when they
need it. I send home a daily News
from 108 Sheet that lists the written and reading assignments.
There is a place for a parent signature and comments. Please be sure to sign this each night, as it server as our
communication tool between school and home.
I include a quick write-up of the day’s events and any
important notes you need to be aware of. Of course, I understand if
your child can’t complete a homework assignment occasionally, but any
missed homework will need to be completed at recess time unless I
receive a note from home.

| Snacks We
have snack each morning at 10:30. Everyone
seems to be hungry by then. Snacks
stay in the backpack until snack time. Your child may keep a water bottle
on their desks if they need one. Please
be sure to send bottles with the pop-up type of lid to avoid spills.

| Birthdays and
Parties Your
child is welcome to bring a treat to school for all to share to
celebrate his/her birthday. Summer
birthdays will be celebrated as “half-birthdays”.
July birthdays will be celebrated in January and August birthdays
will be celebrated in February. June
birthdays will be celebrated in June as we are at school for most of the
month.
