Music News

April

Welcome to our music site!  The Arts have been recognized as a core subject by President Bush.  The "No Child Left Behind" plan that he has drafted has stated that music is as important to our students as Math, Science and Social Studies.

Music at Moosup Elementary  includes general music.  All students grades 1-3 receive general music instruction.   This general music includes singing, instrument playing, dancing, listening, games as well as instruction on music reading.   The music curriculum is available in the main office per request.

First Grade News   ±

The first grade students are hard at work learning how to read notes off of the staff.  We know that notes can be on a line or in a space of the staff and we used our hands to show this.  Now we can read the notes written on the staff that is put on the black board.  We are well on our way to reading music!

We are working on our concert songs and will be presenting those to you soon.  Last year we did not have a concert due to scheduling issues and the fact that we have more students than we have room on our stage. This year we have added a part time music teacher who teacher 6 of the classes here at Moosup Elementary.  That allows us to split the school and be able to fit everyone in the auditorium.  Our concert date for this year is May 25.  The concert will be held during the school day, it is important that we accommodate the students needs.  I feel that by having a concert at night many students will be unable to attend for various reasons.  The reason for doing a concert is so that students have the opportunity to perform for others on a stage. All students should have that opportunity not just a select few who have transportation or parents who will come to the concert at night. We also do not have coverage for students to be watched when the are not on the stage.  By having the concert during the day students remain with their teacher in class until they go on stage and then return to their class when they have finished performing. I understand that some of you work during the day, I myself have children and work during the day.  I understand that it is difficult to take time off of work but I have had to do that for my own children's concerts and school activities. I'm sure you would agree that parenting is not always easy for us.  If you have any other questions about the upcoming performances please e-mail me or call I would be happy to talk with you.  We will video tape the concert and put it on channel 21 our public access channel.  Thank You for your understanding and support.  Mrs. DeLuca

Second Grade News  °

Second grade students are reading music from the staff, with letter names!  We are working on a paper with reading measures, drawing clefs, drawing notes and identifying the lines and spaces of the treble clef.  We are using that knowledge to read our songs.

We are also practicing songs for our concert and hope to see you all there.  The students have many surprises in store for the audience. The concert date is May 25 during the day, see the first grade section for an explanation of our concert.
